Asset managers have been assessing the FATCA requirements since early 2010 and the IGA and CDOT requirements since 2012. With most registrations completed and the onboarding requirements effective from 30 June 2014, asset managers have recently been able to narrow the scope of project teams as many programs and procedural requirements have been moved into ‘business as usual’. Now, with the early adoption of CRS scheduled for January 2016 for account on-boarding and 2017 for information exchange, penalties await firms unable to fully comply. The time is now for asset managers and service providers in the industry to re-engage, re-analyse, resource and prepare for multi-lateral, tax related, information reporting for the first time.
